Dear All,
Shikshana Abhiyana (SA) for the academic year 2009-2010 came to an end last week. In the last one year we increased the number of schools we teach from four to seven. During this time many new things were started, like conducting tests to assess the progress of kids, computer training for the teachers in these schools, Independence day celebrations etc. A big 'Thank You' to all the SA volunteers for their contribution, dedication, effort, time, and team work .
The two months time available for us (till the beginning of the next academic year) will be utilized to plan for better approaches possible and also expand to reach out to more schools in the coming academic year. More details are mentioned below.
Announcements for this week:
See you all this weekend for the breakfast serving!
| Survey for identifying kids who are not going to school: Please note that this weekend there will be no survey for identifying kids who are not going to school, as BBMP elections will happen over the weekend. | |||
| Shikshana Abhiyana - Preparations for 2010 - 11:
Following are the activities planned over the next two months for the Shikshana Abhiyana Project.
Preparing syllabus and defining operations for the next academic year: We have already started a mammoth task of preparing syllabus and defining structure for SA for the next academic year. A team of volunteers from all schools is collecting the necessary information required to frame a common syllabus for different learning levels for all the schools. This undertaking will ensure smoother operation of SA, with pre-set milestones and clearly defined responsibilities. Moreover, this task will put together a framework to facilitate more ease while setting up SA in new schools and will also provide the SA team in other places (Hyderabad, Mysore, etc.) a well defined working structure for reference.
Teaching at School in your area: Coming academic year we plan to reach out to many more schools through SA. Our vision of SA project is to improve the quality of education of govt. and govt. aided schools. To handle the operations of SA in a school we would require anywhere between 10 to 20 volunteers including one School Head. A meeting will be planned in first week of April with the School heads of the new area. During the meeting we will discuss about building the team. Request you to please come forward and grab this opportunity to teach to kids in Govt. or Govt. aided school in your area.
If you would like to be part of any of the above two initiatives then write to info@aashayeinfoundation.org or call Sunil at 9902107107.

Dear All,
Sunday, 14th March, 2010 was not the regular Sunday for the residents of Construction site in Vasanth Nagar. The residents have been staying here for almost 2 years now, in a temporary house and with no clarity of when they will return to their village. We started the Sunday Breakfast Activity with numbering all the houses. And then collected the details of all the kids. It was surprising to see that there are about 100 kids and only a handful of them (around ten) go to the nearest govt. school each week. They spend most of the time playing at the site and/or taking care of their young siblings.
We at Aashayein Foundation invite you to join us in this unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these kids. Coming weekend we will be continuing with the survey to identify more of such kids, if any, and encourage them to go to schools. More details mentioned below:

We leave you with pictures of the last week’s survey and breakfast serving and see you all this weekend!
| Survey for identifying kids who are not going to school: Today in Bangalore alone, there are about 8000 kids who are either working in some mechanic shop or serving food to you at a hotel or washing dishes at home. And each year many more are sent here from villages in the dream of earning more money in cities. Many of these kids don’t even have an opportunity to know what Education can offer them and neither do their parents know the benefits of the Education. If nothing is done about this, these kids will lose their creativity and continue to live with unfulfilled dreams. The kids will then grow up blaming their circumstances for their condition. At the same time, we have the privilege and opportunity to make a difference to these kids and their family. With speaking to them, supporting them and encouraging them to go to school. We believe it’s possible and coming Saturday, 20th March, 2010 we will continue with the survey of the kids who are not going to school in Shivajinagar and Jayanagar area. Please grab this opportunity to make a difference to these kids and send a mail to info@aashayeinfoundation.org or call Suresh at 9845356695 for survey in Shivajinagar and Ankur at 9019099636 for survey in Jayanagar. The survey starts at 10AM at both the places. Let’s get the kids to School and give them their dream! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Dear All,
Kishore (name changed) holding a long rod in one hand and a silencer between his legs is fully focused in removing the dirt and cleaning the silencer. When asked “What is your name?” He looks up, stares for a couple of seconds, then without saying a word bends his head down and continues to clean the silencer.
Kishore is a fifth standard drop-out from Whitefield area and comes with his dad to work at an automobile shop in Shivajinagar. He is one of the eight kids whom we identified during our survey at Shivajinagar on last Saturday. These kids are either irregular to schools or are dropped out from school. They hence spend most of the time playing on streets or working in sheds/shops.
We at Aashayein Foundation invite you to join us in this unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these kids. Coming weekend we will be continuing with the survey to identify more of such kids, if any, and encourage them to go to schools. Also, coming Sunday we would be serving breakfast at a Construction site in Central zone. Please join us in making a difference this weekend. More details mentioned below:
