We are creating a team that will work on Fund-raising. This team will play a crucial role is the growth of Aashayein foundation. This gives the interested people an opportunity to pursue their interests in the true spirit of volunteering.
Following are some of the benefits of volunteering that the existing volunteers have shared,
· A great way to spend your free time and develop skills in dealing with people, public speaking and so on · Opportunity to meet people from various backgrounds -- Social networking -- and also people from your industry · Experience the joy of executing projects that make a difference in the lives of many people · Since the people who will be joining this team will take up honorary positions like Assistant Director, Vice Presidents, Project Leads etc, it gives sense of responsibility · Since this is kind of on-going project/activity, it gives you immense experience, which can help you perform better in other areas of your life. · A nice opportunity to know your strong skills/weaknesses since you get a chance to work on a variety of things. If you are interested in joining this team, please write to somaiah.mp@aashayeinfoundation.org | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Shivashankar B C is a Shikshana Abhiyana Volunteer at Sahakari Vidya Kendra School, Jayanagar. He's known for his commitment, discipline and regularity. He has been instrumental in the success of Shikshana Abhiyana and the success of Aashayein Foundation's projects at the school.
Shivashankar is a Mechanical Engineering graduate, a PGDM in Banking and Finance and has an AMFI Certification in Mutual Fund Advisory and an NSE in Financial and Capital Markets. Currently he's working as a Senior Consultant at iCreate. His hobbies include Equity Trading, Numismatology, Reading Fantasy Fiction novels, Chanting shlokas and listening to classical music.
AF: How did you start volunteering for Aashayein Foundation? Shivashankar: I just wanted to take up some part time teaching then Mr. Narwane and Anil Mugthihalli suggested me about AF's Shikshana Abhiyana. So that's how it all started.
AF: As a School Head, what challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? Shivashankar: I had only one challenge all the way. That is, how to make teaching interesting? What are the new ways I can adopt in teaching? I believe kids evolve more faster than any of us. A method of teaching, which works in today's class will not work in next week's class. A constant change is required in dealing with kids while teaching. This was an ongoing process, which had challenges all the way.
However, when it comes to dealing with school authorities and volunteers this change is lesser. Once you build a good rapport with volunteers and school authorities with better communication then the challenge are very less later or if not nill. So, this is just a onetime process.
AF: What's the most important aspect of volunteering, according to you? Shivashankar: I don't know what to say for this. Could we consider this as a job instead of volunteering. Because we'll be paid here also though not with money but with "Punya" :-)
AF: Would you like to share your best moment in Aashayein Foundation with our readers? Shivashankar: There are plenty. If I have to single out one then it has to be my skit team's performance at Utsav. While receiving the award a kid by name Arvind broke down on the stage to express gratitude. That instance just made me to realise that if a small skit can to do such wonders what a regular teaching can do.
AF: Do you have any areas of concern that we as an organization, need to address? Shivashankar: There are no concerns but there are plenty of opportunity to improve and better our work. Be it with, reaching number of people, improving efficiency in projects, and channelizing the efforts of volunteers.
